Welcome to Book Bunk's Collections Repository!
We transform existing libraries into vibrant public spaces through community collaboration, focusing on three of Nairobi’s oldest and most iconic libraries. Two of these have been fully restored to meet global sustainability standards, utilizing local labor. We enhance these revitalized libraries by curating diverse, actionable knowledge collections that celebrate Africa's rich cultural heritage, improve access to global information repositories, and digitize rare, endangered archival materials.McMillan Memorial Library
For nearly a century, McMillan Memorial Library has stood at the heart of Nairobi, quietly witnessing the city’s transformation. Once a colonial institution, it now belongs to the public, but years of neglect have left its walls and collections in urgent need of repair. Preserving and reimagining this space matters now more than ever, as it anchors our past while shaping an inclusive cultural future.
Eastlands Library
Eastlands Library, located in Makadara constituency near the law courts and county offices, is the busiest of the three Book Bunk project libraries, attracting 23,923 users in 2022, primarily young adults who use it as a study and work space. In July 2021, Book Bunk completed its architectural renovation, restoring the historic structure and enhancing the environment.
Kaloleni Library
Kaloleni Library, established in 1969, is the smallest of the Book Bunk project libraries, primarily serving children while also welcoming adults. Located in Nairobi's Kaloleni Estate near the historic Kaloleni Social Hall, it underwent restoration by Book Bunk in June 2020. The redesign focuses on creating a vibrant space for younger readers, while also catering to community members of all ages.
